Markham Business Hosts Three Free Workshops for Local Owners This Fall

Markham Business is hosting three free workshops for local entrepreneurs and small business owners in September and October 2026: bookkeeping online, market research tools on Teams, and municipal business licensing at Markham Civic Centre.

These sessions sit with the City of Markham’s Economic Development and Small Business Centre work that residents already know as Markham Business. They are practical, free, and open to people who are starting or growing a business here. Registration is through Eventbrite; you can begin from the Markham Business organiser page.

The three sessions

• Accounting Series #1: Bookkeeping Made Easy (17 September, online). Thursday, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. EDT. The workshop covers salary versus dividends, common write-offs (vehicle, meals, home office, and travel), MyCRA, and common CRA audit red flags. Speaker: Sajjad Merali, CPA. Register on Eventbrite.
• Free Market Research Tools For Your Business Success (24 September, online). Thursday, 10:00 a.m. EDT on Microsoft Teams. The session introduces free market research tools and competitive insights available through Markham Public Library and the Markham Small Business Centre. Register through Markham Business.
• Getting Your Business Licensed in the City of Markham (1 October, Civic Centre). Thursday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. EDT in the Canada Room, Markham Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Blvd. The seminar walks through licence types, the application path, and renewal basics. Official requirements are also on the City of Markham Business Licence page. Because of construction, the Main Hall (flag) entrance is blocked; enter via Milliken, Thornhill, or Unionville. Register through Markham Business.

If you are planning a start-up or expanding an existing shop or service in Markham, these dates are worth putting on the calendar. Register early while seats remain open, and write to my office if you need help finding the right City contact for licensing or small-business questions.
